“I’ve seen a lot of linebackers play in this league,” says Tedy Bruschi, sportscaster and former National Football League superstar, “but if there’s a guy I want to mold my career after, it’s Roman Phifer.” Phifer, an honorable mention All-American as a Bruin, had a pro career that spanned 211 NFL games and four teams. He won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. Phifer hit just as hard as an activist in 2009, when he produced his first documentary, \nBlood Equity. The film followed the lives of several former NFL players such as Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett and Willie Wood, shining a spotlight on the hardships and challenges of life after football. Also in 2016, Phifer was named director of player development for UCLA Football. He continues to work tirelessly to educate and advocate for the welfare of players in life after football.
