Sydney Leroux

Class of 2012

You're never too young to be a golden girl.

Sydney Leroux ‘12 was the youngest player on the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team that captured gold in the 2012 London Olympics. But it wasn’t the first time the sharpshooting forward found herself the freshest face on a national squad. At age 14, representing her native Canada, Leroux was the youngest in the entire field of the Under-19 FIFA Women’s World Cup. While helping the Stars and Stripes qualify for the 2012 Games, ‘Syd the Kid” dropped jaws with a five-goal outburst in a 13-0 U.S. victory over Guatemala. Soccer aficionados weren’t surprised when she scored a key goal in London, helping the U.S. to a quarterfinal victory over New Zealand. Leroux ranks in the top five among UCLA women’s soccer players in total goals, game-wining goals and career points.
